Motorcycle Endorsement Classes

Patriot Driving School LLC offers 2 motorcycle endorsement courses supported by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF):

BRC (Basic Rider Course)

This course is designed for beginning riders 15 years and older with a Level 1 Graduated Driver’s License. Individuals with little or no motorcycle experience – or someone who has not operated a motorcycle for an extended period of time – are recommended for the BRC.

Instruction includes:

*Completion of an online Basic e-Course before attending the in-person course (takes about 3-6 hours).
*Attendance at an in-person classroom session (Friday evening, about 3-4 hours)
*Hands-on riding exercises on a controlled motorcycle training range. (Saturday & Sunday, about 5 hours each day)

A written knowledge test and motorcycle skills test are required to pass the course. Upon successful completion of the BRC, students will receive a letter / certificate showing they passed the class. This letter / certificate does NOT automatically make a person “road legal” to operate a motorcycle on public roadways!!

Once a person receives their letter, he/she must then contact the Michigan Secretary of State (online or in-person) to get the “CY” endorsement added to their Michigan driver’s license. This cost $16.

Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2)

This course is designed for riders who already have basic riding skills. This includes the ability to shift gears, controlled starting & stopping, make basic turns, etc. It is an excellent refresher course for practicing and renewing riding skills and includes an informal classroom component for discussing safety concepts based on past riding experiences & current knowledge.

Students may provide their own motorcycle. Riders must provide proof of insurance and the motorcycle must pass a safety inspection. Motorcycles must also be properly titled, registered, and display a valid license plate. Automatic shift motorcycles are allowed in this class. Patriot LLC also rents motorcycles for riders to use for this class at a cost of $60.
